On September 18, the Springhill, NS, Canada Small Packaging facility was showcased as part of an automation tour organized by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC). EMC facilitates networking and sharing of best practices among businesses. The tour was supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and billed as “an opportunity to learn from your peers, who have taken on the challenge of today’s manufacturing environment by successfully adopting technology and advanced manufacturing techniques to increase productivity and mitigate labor constraints.”
One of the key features of the tour was the Team Performance Center (TPC), which is a location in the Springhill facility where top issues of the day are addressed by each department. All employees cycle through the TPC each day so that everyone remains aware of the most pressing matters for each department. Also featured during the tour were the many unique products, machinery and automation such as in-mold labeling (IML) found in the facility. As an EMC member, the Springhill facility has been a host for several other local Strategic Interest Group (SIG) events in the past.
In total, 56 participants, from 20 different manufacturing facilities, in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island took part in the Automation Tour. In addition to Mauser Packaging Solutions, participants also visited the Atlantic Autocold and Organigram facilities.
“We received a great deal of positive feedback and were pleased to showcase our facility.”
