Protect Yourself and Others with an Annual Flu Vaccine and Updated COVID-19 Boosters

Michelle MachenMauser News

Temperatures are starting to cool and the start of another cold and flu season is just around the corner. Protect yourself and those around you by getting a flu vaccine and updating your COVID-19 vaccination.
Since a yearly flu shot is the best way to prevent and weaken the flu, employees are encouraged to protect themselves and others by getting an annual flu vaccine. For employees who are UnitedHealthcare members, getting an annual flu shot may be 100% covered by visiting one of the pre-approved UnitedHealthcare retail pharmacies, convenience care clinics or care providers. To find available providers, visit https://www.uhc.com/health-and-wellness/health-topics/flu. For employees of Mauser International, please look out for local announcements and/or vaccination options.

While COVID-19 continues to be a year-round risk, many people find it convenient to update their COVID -19 vaccine at the same time they receive their annual flu shot. The CDC recommends that everyone stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, especially those with weakened immune systems. COVID-19 vaccines help your body develop protection from the virus that causes COVID-19. Although vaccinated people sometimes get infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccines significantly lowers the risk of getting very sick, being hospitalized, or dying from COVID-19. For employees who are UnitedHealthcare members, COVID-19 vaccines may be 100% covered by visiting one of the pre-approved UnitedHealthcare retail pharmacies, convenience care clinics or care providers1. For employees of Mauser International, please contact your health insurance provider or your local HR team, if you need more information.

After you get your vaccines, continue to take steps to protect yourself and others from these illnesses. Here are more ways you can help protect yourself and your community:

People may be infected with flu and have respiratory symptoms without a fever. COVID-19 presents with a wide variety of symptoms based on vaccination status and specific variant. Possible symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Wash your hands throughout the day, especially after you’ve been in a public place or if you sneeze or cough.

Avoid close contact and maintain a physical distance from others when you’re in public spaces

Wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose to protect others if you are feeling sick and in case you may be infected.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily, like doorknobs, tables, countertops, phones and more.
While vaccines and other preventative measures cannot provide 100% protection, being vaccinated will reduce your vulnerability to viruses and protect you, your loved ones and your co-workers from flu and COVID-19 from severe illness.
1UHC members: ACIP recommended and CDC adopted COVID-19 vaccine and booster serum and administration are covered as part of preventive benefits at zero-dollar cost share, when in network.
