The first steel drum was produced in 1903 by legacy MAUSER.
In 1903, Alfons Mauser introduced the first steel drum which was the very first metal drum in the market. This invention became the foundation for the entire legacy MAUSER business and is regarded as the beginning of modern industrial packaging.
The drum, made of a heavy steel sheet, was developed by welding together two iron carboy housings and adding longitudinal and transversal grooves which created a design that was an improvement over other containers being used at the time. This design became known worldwide as the “Aniline Drum”.
One year later, a liquid tight steel drum, the MAUSER Tight Head Drum, was introduce. Various drum types and sizes followed and laid the foundation for the wide drum portfolio Mauser Packaging Solutions offers today.
